Nike (PR: NEE-kay) Imoru
is a British casting director, Actor, director, writer with a PhD and an array of credits in the entertainment industry covering thirty years and twenty one countries. For the last decade Nike has worked in the Northwest casting commercials, , documentaries, Macklemore’s music video (Downtown!) and theatre. She has cast a slew of feature films and is currently the executive casting director for Sy Fy Channel’s Z Nation starring Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls, as well as Russell Hodgkinson, Pisay Pao and Nat Zang, Seattle-based actors cast by Nike in the first season. Since then Nike has been responsible for casting4 seasons with an impressive array of talented actors from the Northwest.
Aside from casting Z Nation for Sy Fy she has worked alongside a plethora of celebrity actors and directors including Wayne Wang, John Carpenter, Tony Krantz, Samuel Jackson, Ray Liotta, Wei Tang, Antonio Banderas, Amber Heard, Jimmy Simpson, Vera Farmiga, Tom Skerrit, amongst others. She is passionate about the process of casting and enjoys an intelligent and intuitive ability to “understand the actor, any actor, from any culture”. Alongside her work as a casting director, Nike is also a Master acting coach. She partners with actors to develop and create unique content specific to their emotional and psychological needs. Over the past decade she has been unswervingly committed to developing a rich, diverse and skilled talent pool for the Northwest entertainment industries.
Nike is a classically-trained, award-winning actress,with a stack of national and international acting credits ranging from BBC Radio 4 to Public Radio; from The Royal National Theatre Studios in London, to The Getty Museum in LA; from her seminal one-woman performance of Medea in Delphi, Greece; to her critically-acclaimed portrayal of Shakespeare’s most villainous male antagonist, Aaron the Moor, in Titus Andronicus (2012) for which she was awarded Outstanding Classical Actress, (Footlight Award, Seattle Times) Best Featured Actress (Critics Choice Award, Broadway World) and Excellence in Performance (Gypsy Rose Lee Award).
In academe she has taught hundreds of student-actors globally. (She landed her first academic teaching gig at the ripe old age of twenty-two and a half.) She has collaborated and shared the stage with some of the most illustrious figures in theatre and performance history, including Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. She gained her PhD from the University of Warwick, UK. Her doctoral thesis was added to the British Library in 2012. Nike is a member of Actors Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA and the guild of casting directors – the Casting Society of America.
Nike counts among her many and varied interests: kayaking, languages (she speaks five) and foreign cultures, hiking, (a great love of the Pacific Ocean, particularly the Oregon Coast), open-air markets, writing, cooking, meditating, Radio 4, Yoda, design and architecture, Flower Gardening and of course, Shakespeare.
